Modified Teaching Reading at Home Training Video by BHI and LITHBTH
|
In 1996 Wanda Sanseri produced a Training Video for teachers using Teaching Reading
at Home, the supplement she had written to The Writing Road to Reading. The video featured Wanda working with
a small group of students at various points of instruction over a three-month period. After ten years, we now have Spell
to Write and Read with The WISE Guide! While the concepts and much of the process is the same, we realized
some of the demonstrations or the rules cited on the video differed slightly from the explanations in SWR. These variations
were due to the refinements that have been made to the program over the years. In the meantime, teachers using SWR have continued to request a Training Video. Wanda plans to produce another Training Video to directly complement SWR, but until that dream materializes, we've put together a Training Package we hope will meet the needs of teachers using this
program. With modifications, the original TRH Training Video is now available on DVD!
The Training Video & Notes are intended to:
* Provide a visual model of key concepts in SWR which are taught at all skill levels
* Model the current dictation process which is so crucial to the SWR methodology
* Give a demonstration of how the program works with real children
* Demonstrate the flow of a typical spelling lesson
* Assist teachers in gaining confidence in their teaching
* Provide an up-to-date Training Package when both the DVD and Notes are used together
For a thorough explanation of this Training Package, please visit our
Training Video page.

An SWR User Reviews the Three SWR DVDs
|
We have three DVDs to help customers understand
and use SWR better. But which one is best for you? Here's a review written by Sarah Oden, one of our SWR Yahoo Group members about the differences between the DVDs...
Modified Teaching Reading at Home: I found this to be a great "picture" of what SWR would look like in action. It is detailed
and specific, but can be overwhelming at first. This format satisfies the "teacher" in me! As I've gotten into the program
myself with my children, I find this video provides good ideas and practices to incorporate.
You Can Do It!: I LOVE this one! Britta is so sweet and natural in her presentation. I especially like all the ways her
young children are involved, since I have many young ones. You see snips of different sessions with her and the children,
again, very natural and an "at home" feel.
A Blueprint For Success: I just got this one, and I'm glad I did. My husband connected with this one best (not surprising
since Mr. Munger is narrating). I appreciated his step-by-step approach to walking through the first 12 steps of the program.
His interviews with several SWR families gives insight into how others utilize the program and make it work for themselves.
Little things, such as how they set up their materials or where they do their instruction, are visible as you get to "peek
in" on these families.
Is there one I would recommend over all? Not really. I think each one presents a special aspect of the program. As one who
learns best by "seeing," these videos have been a tremendous help to me. Best of all is the SWR Yahoo Group! So supportive and encouraging! Thanks to all of you! Sarah in VA
