How To Use This Page
- The absolute basic materials you need to teach this program are the Core Teacher’s Kit and Learning
Logs for you and your student.
That’s it. We have many wonderful products that have been developed to further assist you in your teaching experience,
but these are all supplemental. Some people prefer one product over another. The Combo packages listed below are what I
recommend for each Skill Level and include the products I have used on a regular basis with my own children.
- SWR is NOT a program that plugs children into grade level work.
Read carefully the explanation of each Skill Level listed below to decide where your children fit. Your goal is to have
each student working at a level that is appropriate for him/her. The Combos below include recommendations for which materials
are most suited for working with each Skill Level.
- Do not feel locked into the Combos listed.
Ordering materials can be done either “a la carte” from the regular materials pages, or you can save money by
ordering a Combo from those listed below. If there is a component of a Combo you do not want, or you feel you would not use
some of those materials, then use the Combos as a shopping list to put together a package that best suits your family’s
needs and budget.
- Order for mulitple children by starting with the youngest, and then adding the "a la carte" items for the older children.

page.
K4/K5 Combos
Students in this Skill Level have little or no previous writing or reading instruction,
but they are ready to begin learning the first phonograms, basic penmanship skills, and the beginning spelling and reading
process. They may progress into several sections in the Wise Spelling List and some beginning reading over the course of
the school year.
NOTE: These Combos will provide you with one Primary Learning Log for the student and one for
the parent/teacher. If you have additional students that fall within this Skill Level, you will need to order additional
logs a la carte. Likewise, if you are ordering one of the Full or Deluxe Combos, you will need an additional Writing Journal
for each extra student within this Skill Level.
Yr 1 Combos
Students in this Skill Level may or may not have some previous writing or reading instruction,
but they are ready to begin learning the phonograms and the spelling and reading process. Their fine motor skills are adequate
for quickly learning or reviewing proper penmanship skills. They are ready to make good progress in the Wise Spelling Lists
and delve into the reading process.
NOTE: These Combos will provide you with one Primary Learning Log for the student
and one for the parent/teacher. If you have additional students that fall within this Skill Level, you will need to order
additional logs a la carte. Likewise, if you are ordering one of the Full or Deluxe Combos, you will need an additional Writing
Journal for each extra student within this Skill Level.

Yr 2 Combos
Students in this Skill Level have had previous writing or reading instruction and are
continuing in their study of the spelling and reading process. Their penmanship skills are well established, but they may
be ready to transition to cursive if they have been using manuscript writing. They are ready to make good progress in the
Wise Spelling Lists and in the reading process.
NOTE: These Combos will provide you with one Primary Learning Log
for the student and one for the parent/teacher. If you have additional students that fall within this Skill Level, you will
need to order additional logs a la carte.
Yr 3+ Combos
Around 3rd grade we suggest that students transition to the Black Learning Log for
"Advanced" study in spelling and reading. Students in this Skill Level are well established in their reading instruction.
Although their penmanship skills are automatic, they may be ready to transition to cursive if they have been using manuscript
writing. These students are ready to work at Advanced levels in the Wise Spelling Lists and to delve deeper into studying
the English language.
NOTE: These Combos will provide you with one Black Learning Log for the student and one for
the parent/teacher. If you have additional students that fall within this Skill Level, you will need to order additional
logs a la carte.

Used by beginners for sentence writing, penmanship practice, recording Wise Guide reinforcement activities, and
other writing activities. Keep all "extra" work in one place. Use the student's own writing as his "reader" until he's ready
to read what others have written in books.
Spiral bound book with 50 narrow ruled, newsprint pages. Lines have 1/2"
spacing and a red baseline. 8" wide x 10 1/2" long.
